Stitch Goldfinch Bird, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a pretty goldfinch with its red face, black cap and flash of yellow wing perches on a leafy branch hung with little red berries, finely shaded on white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: the goldfinch was once a symbol of good luck and endurance, and a goldfinch visiting the garden in winter was said to promise a happy year.

Why this kit: an easy (2 out of 5), quick bird portrait that looks lovely in a small frame and suits the garden bird series.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 33 colours, a needle, a black-and-white symbol chart with coloured backstitch and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the red face and yellow wing flash first, then the brown and grey feathers, and finish with the leaves and berries using the chart.
