Bead-embroider "Toucan" with this Charivna Mit beadwork kit — a crescent-shaped toucan head in profile, with a glossy black crown, a white throat patch, and a bold yellow-and-orange beaded beak.

Why this kit: the felt pieces create a soft dimensional finish; the templates and stitch guide make the project approachable; the finished ornament or hoop art is easy to display or give as a handmade gift.

Kit includes: instruction chart, color pattern, Preciosa beads in 11 colors (6 sizes), Crystal Art beads in 9 colors (9 sizes), gimp, felt, a fastener, and a needle. Made in Ukraine.

Bead embroidery is worked by following the color scheme and stitching each bead onto the felt base in the indicated position and shade, building up texture and shine bead by bead, with gimp trim outlining the edges of the shape; the finished piece is mounted onto stiff cardboard backing for structure (cardboard, embroidery thread, and glue are purchased separately). Once complete, attach the brooch pin to wear or gift.

Finished size: 6x5.5 cm (2.36x2.17 in). An engaging beadwork project and a colorful handmade gift for a bird or tropical-motif jewelry fan.
