Bead a sweet two-sided ornament with New Year Sweets, a bead embroidery kit by Abris Art — berry-topped holiday cupcakes with swirls of cream on a round blue disc, with another festive treat on the reverse. Worked with over 499 Preciosa Ornela Czech glass beads in 7 colours.

A little stitcher's folklore: in many homes the first sweet of the new year is eaten for a sweet year ahead, and treats hung on the tree were the original Christmas ornaments. Stitchers say a sweet on the tree keeps the whole year sweet.

Why this kit: if you love baking or all things cosy, this ornament is irresistible — and with only 7 colours it's quick and beginner-friendly. A sweet gift for bakers and a lovely stocking stuffer.

Kit includes: natural art canvas pre-printed with both sides of the design, a second canvas for finishing, over 499 Preciosa Ornela Czech glass beads in 7 colours, a Japanese beading needle, beading thread, sealant, decorative ribbon, and instructions with a symbol key.

Each bead is sewn onto its marked spot on the printed canvas. When both sides are done, join them as shown in the instructions and add the ribbon to hang.

Finished size: 6.6 cm (2.6 in) round, beaded on both sides. A handmade Christmas tree ornament and a sweet gift.
