Stitch Gnomes of Valentine's Day, a plastic canvas cross stitch kit by Luca-S — three gnomes in red-and-white hats hold up an “I”, a heart and a “U” to spell out I love you.

A little stitcher's folklore: gnomes were said to guard hearts as well as homes — and never to let a promise be broken.

Why this kit: a sweet, quick Valentine's set with just 11 colours.

Kit includes: an A4 sheet (21×28 cm) of plastic canvas, Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 11 colours, 2 needles, a black-and-white symbol chart with coloured backstitch and instructions.

Stitch each ornament on the plastic canvas, then cut it out one hole beyond the stitching and add a loop of thread to hang it.

Each ornament: about 7×14 cm (2.8×5.5 in). Hang them in a window or give them with a Valentine's card.
