Stitch Liberty, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a stars-and-stripes shoe rises to the Statue of Liberty as its heel, her torch held high above a star-shaped base.

A little stitcher's folklore: the Statue of Liberty was a gift from France in 1886, and her copper turned green over about 30 years.

Why this kit: part of Sally King's Shoe Art Collection, it turns a fantasy high heel into a whole scene, in bold red, white and blue.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida, pre-sorted stranded cottons, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the shoe and statue in cross stitch from the centre, then add the back stitch and French knots.

Finished size: 23×29 cm (9.1×11.4 in). A bold piece for any lover of America.
