Chinese Scholar's Bookstore DIY Book Nook Kit 9 in by Wizardi F07M5-41-CN01

A two-storey traditional Chinese bookstore framed in honey-toned carved lattice: upstairs, two robed ladies sit beneath a hanging scroll painting, one playing a stringed instrument, and a narrow staircase leads down to a study lined with books, scrolls, bonsai and blue and white porcelain, where a scholar in pale green stands reading by a paper lantern. A dust-proof cover keeps the finished piece clean.

A little crafter's folklore: Chinese scholars said a room with books and a plant is never empty, and miniaturists like to place one tiny scroll open on the desk.

Why this kit: if you love Chinese culture, this nook is elegant and calm, with fine lattice carving, a dust-proof cover and a soft touch-switch light.

In the box: laser-cut wooden sheets for the book nook case and the multi-level scene, printed figures, signs and side-panel artwork, tiny props, an LED light with a touch switch and battery box, and an illustrated instruction manual. Not included: batteries, glue and small tools such as tweezers.

Part of the Wizardi storybook book nook series in the same tall upright case, made to stand between your books like a lit volume of its own, so shops, homes and fantasy rooms line up on one shelf. Build tip: build the scene floor by floor from the bottom up, route the light wire as you go and test the touch switch before closing the side panels, then add the roof details last. Pair it with the Elegant Song Dynasty and Su Dongpo's Life book nooks.

Size: 11 x 18 x 23 cm (4.3 x 7.1 x 9.1 in). A statement bookshelf insert that glows between your books at night, and a memorable gift for readers. Recommended for ages 14 and up.
