Stitch Cheerful Snowman, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a snowman in a red hat and scarf holds a glowing lantern as a little bird flies past in the snow.

A little stitcher's folklore: the first known picture of a snowman appears in a medieval book dating from 1380.

Why this canvas: it comes from Orchidea, the Polish needlework maker founded in 1985 and known for its classic tapestry designs.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 20 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Work half stitch over the printed colours, matching each area to the colour key, starting with the darkest shades.

Canvas size: 15×15 cm (5.9×5.9 in). A cheerful piece for the festive season.
