Stitch British Shorthair, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a grey British Shorthair with round copper eyes sits against a warm golden background.

A little stitcher's folklore: the British Shorthair is said to have inspired the grinning Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland.

Why this canvas: it comes from Orchidea, the Polish needlework maker founded in 1985 and known for its classic tapestry designs.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 11 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Work half stitch over the printed colours, matching each area to the colour key, starting with the darkest shades.

Canvas size: 18×24 cm (7.1×9.4 in). A lovely gift for a cat lover.
