Stitch Rose, a tissue box cover needlepoint kit by Orchidea — a pink rose on each side with a pale green and pink dotted pattern.

A little stitcher's folklore: the Thousand-year Rose on Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany is said to be the oldest living rose.

Why this kit: stiff plastic canvas and acrylic yarn build a sturdy, useful piece that keeps its shape.

Kit includes: extra-stiff plastic canvas, acrylic yarn in 7 colours, a chart, instructions and a needle to make a tissue box cover. Stitch used: half stitch.

Stitch each panel in half stitch following the chart, then join the pieces with overcast stitch.

Finished size: 13×12×12 cm (5.1×4.7×4.7 in). A pretty, useful piece for a bedroom or bathroom.
