Stitch Butterfly, a tissue box cover needlepoint kit by Orchidea — a large orange and black monarch butterfly spreading across a grey tissue box cover.

A little stitcher's folklore: monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles to spend the winter in Mexico.

Why this kit: stiff plastic canvas and acrylic yarn build a sturdy, useful piece that keeps its shape.

Kit includes: extra-stiff plastic canvas, acrylic yarn in 6 colours, a chart, instructions and a needle to make a tissue box cover. Stitch used: half stitch.

Stitch each panel in half stitch following the chart, then join the pieces with overcast stitch.

Finished size: 13×12×12 cm (5.1×4.7×4.7 in). A striking, useful piece for any room.
