Stitch Field Flowers, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a big, generous bouquet of blue and violet bellflowers, pink wildflowers and feathery grasses in a painted ceramic jug by a bright window. Worked in 45 colours of DMC stranded cotton on fine 18-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: bellflowers were said to ring for the fairies, and a jug of wildflowers on the windowsill welcomed good spirits into the home. Stitchers say this bouquet keeps summer indoors all year.

Why this kit: if you love wildflowers and big, rewarding projects, this large bouquet is a true heirloom piece. A beautiful gift for gardeners and experienced stitchers.

Kit includes: 18-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 45 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Work the flowers from the centre outward, starting with the darker blues and violets. Finish with the grasses, the painted jug and the window light.

Finished size: 37×46 cm (14.57×18.11 in). A large floral picture to frame and a treasured handmade gift.
