Stitch Cabbage Butterfly, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a pale, black-veined white butterfly flutters toward tall pink fireweed and little blue wildflowers growing in the corner of a summer meadow. Worked in 30 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: a white butterfly is said to bring good luck and a gentle summer, and the first white butterfly of the year was a wish-maker in country lore. Stitchers say this one grants a quiet one.

Why this kit: if you love butterflies and wildflowers, this airy design is delicate and relaxing to stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners, and a set with RTO's other insect designs.

Kit includes: 14-count grey Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 30 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the butterfly's fine black veins, then fill the pale wings. Finish with the pink fireweed and blue flowers in the corner.

Finished size: 19.5×21 cm (7.68×8.27 in). A delicate summer picture to frame and a lovely handmade gift.
