Stitch Bloomy Herbs, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — an old wooden cart wheel drawn in soft sepia lines leans in the grass beside tall stems of red clover in bloom. Worked in 23 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: clover is the lucky plant of the fields, and an old wheel left by the path was said to mean the journey had brought you safely home. Stitchers say this one brings luck to every road.

Why this kit: if you love country-cottage style, this rustic wheel and clover design is gentle and nostalgic. A lovely gift for gardeners, and a pair with RTO's Bloomy Herbs water-pump design.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 23 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the red clover heads and leaves, then outline the cart wheel in its fine sepia lines. Most of the white fabric stays open.

Finished size: 10.5×14 cm (4.13×5.51 in). A rustic country picture to frame and a lovely good-luck gift.
