Stitch Bloomy Herbs, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — tall stems of pink and magenta flowering herbs and a spray of pink wildflowers grow beside an old wooden fence post drawn in soft sepia lines. Worked in 25 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: herbs growing by the garden fence were said to guard the boundary of the home and keep the family healthy all year. Stitchers say this corner of the garden keeps everyone well.

Why this kit: if you love country-cottage style, this little garden corner is fresh, nostalgic and quick to stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners, and part of RTO's Bloomy Herbs set with the water pump and cart wheel.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 25 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the pink flower heads, working the darker magentas first, then the green stems and leaves. Finish with the sepia fence post.

Finished size: 9.5×17 cm (3.74×6.69 in). A nostalgic country picture to frame and a lovely gift for gardeners.
