Stitch With the Flavour of Salt, Wind and Sun, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a seagull perches on the sill of a bright blue window set in an old whitewashed stone wall, in a sunny seaside town. Worked in 22 colours of DMC stranded cotton on natural linen-look Rustico Aida, which gives it a rustic, sun-bleached texture.

A little stitcher's folklore: a seagull at the window was said to bring news from the sea, and a blue window frame was painted to keep bad luck out of the house. Stitchers say this gull is bringing good news.

Why this kit: if you love coastal towns and Mediterranean blue, this seaside window is a charming, relaxing stitch. A lovely gift for beach-house decor and anyone who misses the sea.

Kit includes: 16-count natural linen-look Zweigart Rustico Aida (cotton, viscose and linen), DMC stranded cotton in 22 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the seagull, then the blue window frame and its reflections. Finish with the grey stonework — the linen-look fabric forms the whitewashed wall.

Finished size: 16.5×24.5 cm (6.5×9.65 in). A sunny seaside picture to frame and a lovely gift for sea lovers.
