A little stitcher's folklore: poppy seeds were once sprinkled on the windowsill to bring peaceful sleep, and a picture of poppies by the bed was thought to do the same.

Why this kit: a fresh, modern floral with a painterly look and 37 colours — relaxing to stitch and quick to finish.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 37 colours, a needle, a black-and-white symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the dark poppy centres, then the scarlet petals, and finish with the stems, buds and washes using the black-and-white chart.

Finished size: 21×21 cm (8.3×8.3 in). A fresh watercolour floral to frame and a sweet gift.
