Stitch A Festive Flourish, a counted cross stitch kit by Bothy Threads — a cock pheasant with holly in its beak strides along a snowy stone wall.

A little stitcher's folklore: in medieval England, roast pheasant was a Christmas feast for the nobility, often served back in its own feathers.

Why this kit: based on artwork by Hannah Dale of Wrendale Designs, it is stitched on Aida printed with an exclusive watercolour background, so the sky and landscape are already in place.

Kit includes: 14-count Zweigart Aida printed with an exclusive watercolour background, pre-sorted stranded cottons, sparkle threads, a needle and a clear stitch diagram and instructions. Stitches used: cross stitch, back stitch and French knots. A frame is not included.

Stitch the pheasant and wall in cross stitch from the centre, then add the sparkle details, back stitch and French knots.

Finished size: 26×26 cm (10.2×10.2 in). A wintry piece to hang each Christmas.
