Stitch Poppy, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a large red poppy with a dark green centre opens among green leaves and buds against a blue sky.

A little stitcher's folklore: the red poppy has been worn in remembrance since the First World War, inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields.

Why this canvas: you choose the thread, so you can work it in tapestry wool for a traditional look or in cotton floss for a finer finish.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 13 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 15×15 cm (5.9×5.9 in). A bold floral piece for a summer room.
