Felt Nathan with this Charivna Mit needle felting kit — a golden hamster sitting up on its haunches, round dark eyes and a pink nose, clutching a dark seed between its front paws.

Why this kit: the felt pieces create a soft dimensional finish; the templates and stitch guide make the project approachable; the finished ornament or hoop art is easy to display or give as a handmade gift.

Kit includes: instructions, color scheme, New Zealand Ashford wool in 4 colors, Preciosa Ornela beads (Czech Republic) in 1 color, chenille wire, and felting tips (2 pieces). Made in Ukraine.

Needle felting is worked by layering small tufts of wool and repeatedly poking them with a barbed felting needle, which tangles the fibers together and gradually compacts and shapes them into a firm 3D form. Work section by section — body, head, and paws, reinforcing the seated pose with the chenille wire — following the included instructions, then set the bead eyes and felt the seed accent once the base shape is complete.

Finished size: 11.5 x 8.5 cm (4.53 x 3.35 in). A charming 3D project and a fun handmade gift or collectible for a hamster or small-pet lover.

    Can't wait to get started!\n\n* update: I ran out of the main body color to connect the head and body. Hopefully I have enough white or I can find another color to work ? this is my first project so I may have rolled the shape a little tight to start with. I will make all the small parts before I try to use the white to connect them, just in case!
