Stitch Toadstools, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — two red and white spotted toadstools grow among lush green grass and tiny white flowers.

A little stitcher's folklore: the word toadstool dates back to the 14th century, from the old idea that toads sat on them.

Why this canvas: it comes from Orchidea, the Polish needlework maker founded in 1985 and known for its classic tapestry designs.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 12 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 15×15 cm (5.9×5.9 in). A fairytale piece for a woodland corner.
