Stitch Birth of Christ, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — Mary and Joseph bend lovingly over the baby Jesus beneath a shining star.

A little stitcher's folklore: the first Christmas crib scene is said to have been set up by St Francis of Assisi in 1223.

Why this canvas: you choose the thread, so you can work it in tapestry wool for a traditional look or in cotton floss for a finer finish.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 25 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 40×50 cm (15.7×19.7 in). A meaningful piece for the Christmas season.
