Stitch Spick and Span, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a grey horse and a bay horse look out side by side over a white stable door.

A little stitcher's folklore: 'spick and span' comes from old shipbuilding, meaning as new as a fresh spike and wood chip.

Why this canvas: it comes from Orchidea, the Polish needlework maker founded in 1985 and known for its classic tapestry designs.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 16 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Work half stitch over the printed colours, matching each area to the colour key, starting with the darkest shades.

Canvas size: 30×40 cm (11.8×15.7 in). A handsome gift for a horse lover.
