Stitch Hen, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a speckled grey hen with a red comb peers out from pink and yellow flowers on a dark background.

A little stitcher's folklore: a sitting hen turns her eggs many times a day to keep them evenly warm.

Why this canvas: it comes from Orchidea, the Polish needlework maker founded in 1985 and known for its classic tapestry designs.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 27 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 30×40 cm (11.8×15.7 in). A bold piece for a country kitchen.

    I love the printed canvas! The only problem I have is finding the correct color yarn.Luckily I have lots of leftover yarn from other projects.It's really fun to work on because of all the shading of colors.
