Stitch Birds at the Hand Pump, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — great tits flutter around an old hand pump among red poppies and garden flowers.

A little stitcher's folklore: tits once learned to peck through milk bottle tops on British doorsteps to reach the cream.

Why this canvas: you choose the thread, so you can work it in tapestry wool for a traditional look or in cotton floss for a finer finish.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 29 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 40×40 cm (15.7×15.7 in). A charming garden piece for a kitchen.
