Stitch Gingerbread House, a printed needlepoint canvas by Orchidea — a gingerbread house with a heart-shaped window, white icing and sweets sits on a pink background.

A little stitcher's folklore: gingerbread houses became popular in Germany after the Brothers Grimm published Hansel and Gretel.

Why this canvas: you choose the thread, so you can work it in tapestry wool for a traditional look or in cotton floss for a finer finish.

Canvas includes: 100% cotton Zweigart 10-count canvas (40 holes per 10 cm) printed with the design in 14 colours, with the colour key printed on the canvas and a thread list for DMC, Anchor and Ariadna. Stitch used: half stitch. Threads, needle and frame are not included.

Match each printed colour to the thread list, then fill the canvas in half stitch, working the main shapes first and the background last.

Canvas size: 15×15 cm (5.9×5.9 in). A sweet piece for the festive season.
