Stitch Birds, a cross stitch bookmark kit by Orchidea — three bookmarks show a cardinal, a blue tit and a bullfinch on snowy branches.
A little stitcher's folklore: cardinals do not migrate, and the males stay bright red all winter.
Why this kit: plastic canvas keeps each bookmark firm and flat, so the finished pieces are practical as well as pretty.
Kit includes: white plastic canvas, DMC 6-strand cotton floss in 19 colours, a chart, instructions and a needle to make three bookmarks. Stitch used: cross stitch. No hoop or frame is needed, as plastic canvas holds its shape.
Stitch each bookmark on the plastic canvas, then trim the edges neatly, one row outside the stitching.
Each bookmark measures about 6.2×19 cm (2.4×7.5 in). Handy bookmarks for a birdwatcher.
