Stitch Moon, a cross stitch bookmark kit by Orchidea — three bookmarks lettered Moon show a wolf howling in a misty forest, a starry sky over pink mountains and moonlight on a lake.

A little stitcher's folklore: the moon looks bigger near the horizon, but this is an illusion: it is the same size as when it is high in the sky.

Why this kit: plastic canvas keeps each bookmark firm and flat, so the finished pieces are practical as well as pretty.

Kit includes: white plastic canvas, DMC 6-strand cotton floss in 14 colours, a chart, instructions and a needle to make three bookmarks. Stitch used: cross stitch. No hoop or frame is needed, as plastic canvas holds its shape.

Stitch each bookmark on the plastic canvas, then trim the edges neatly, one row outside the stitching.

Each bookmark measures about 6.5×19 cm (2.6×7.5 in). Handy bookmarks for a night owl.

    I haven't finished this one yet but so far the kit is great. Shipping was a little slow. I got a notice that it shipped (or that the label had been created) but it wasn't actually mailed until 4 days later. Once the USPS had the package, shipping was quick.
