Stitch Nativity, a plastic canvas cross stitch kit by Orchidea — a three-panel nativity with Mary, Joseph and the Christ Child in the centre, flanked by an ox, a donkey and sheep.

A little stitcher's folklore: the ox and donkey in nativity scenes come from a line in the Book of Isaiah.

Why this kit: quick designs on stiff plastic canvas that you can cut out and hang straight away, perfect for decorating or giving.

Kit includes: white plastic canvas, DMC 6-strand cotton floss in 26 colours, a chart, instructions and a needle to make a three-panel nativity scene. Stitch used: cross stitch. No hoop or frame is needed, as plastic canvas holds its shape.

Stitch each panel on the plastic canvas, then trim neatly around the edges, one row outside the stitching.

The three panels measure 7×16, 11×16 and 7×16 cm (2.8×6.3, 4.3×6.3 and 2.8×6.3 in). A meaningful decoration for the Christmas season.

    This is the first kit I have ever bought like this. The directions are very clear and I really like the drawings of the Holy Family and the animals. DMC thread is used which I prefer and a 14 hole canvas. The packaging was great.
