Stitch Hen in the Yard, a farmhouse counted cross-stitch kit by Abris Art — a golden-brown mother hen with a red comb shelters three fluffy yellow chicks, surrounded by orange roses and deep green foliage. Worked on coffee-coloured 14-count Aida in 35 colours of floss.

A little stitcher's folklore: in Ukrainian folk tradition the hen with her chicks is a symbol of a caring mother and a big, happy family, and a hen in the yard meant plenty on the table. Stitchers say this mother hen keeps the family close and well cared for.

Why this kit: if you love farmhouse style, this hen and chicks is warm and heart-melting. An absorbing project for confident beginners and experienced stitchers, and a lovely gift for mothers, grandmothers and country kitchens.

Kit includes: coffee-coloured 14-count Aida canvas (33×40 cm), a cross stitch needle, 119 m of embroidery floss in 35 colours on an organizer, a counted cross stitch pattern, and instructions.

Counted cross stitch is worked by following the pattern and placing each cross on the Aida grid with the matching floss colour. Stitch the hen and chicks first, then the roses and foliage.

Finished size: 23×30 cm (9.06×11.81 in). Farmhouse kitchen wall art and a gift for mom.
