Stitch Unicorn with Balloons, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a smiling pink-maned unicorn trots along holding a bunch of pastel balloons, with little stars scattered all around and a name and birth date stitched underneath. The chart shows the name Sarah and a sample date; you can chart your own name and date in the same lettering.

A little stitcher's folklore: unicorns were believed to bring luck and protection to children, and a unicorn over the cradle was said to keep bad dreams away. Balloons, of course, are for every birthday still to come.

Why this kit: a magical, colourful keepsake for a baby girl's birth, christening or first birthday. The open design is quick to stitch and easy to personalise.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 29 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the unicorn's face and mane, then the balloons and stars, and finish with the name and date. Plan your own lettering on the chart first so it sits centred beneath the unicorn.

Finished size: 17×17.5 cm (6.7×6.9 in). A cheerful nursery keepsake and a lovely personalised gift for new parents.
