Stitch Poppies, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a tall bunch of orange-red poppies with open blooms, buds and seed heads rises among feathery grasses and green wheat ears, in a soft, natural style on off-white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: poppies and wheat growing side by side were said to promise a rich harvest, and a posy of both was hung in farmhouse kitchens for luck.

Why this kit: a warm, natural wildflower design in a tall shape that suits a narrow wall, hallway or kitchen.

Kit includes: 18-count off-white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 34 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the poppy petals from their deep shadows to bright highlights, then the buds, and finish with the grasses and wheat using the symbol chart.

Finished size: 20×32.5 cm (7.9×12.8 in). A summery wildflower picture to frame and a lovely gift for country lovers.
