Stitch Red Poppies, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a row of bright red poppies sways on long, slender stems across a wide panel of white Aida, some wide open, some still in bud. Simple, bold and very summery.

A little stitcher's folklore: farmers used to say that a field of poppies meant a good harvest was coming, and children would make a wish on the first poppy they found each summer.

Why this kit: a fresh, minimal floral that looks stunning above a sideboard or bed. Only 18 colours and plenty of open fabric make it a relaxing, quick-to-finish project.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 18 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the poppy heads first, from the deep red centres to the bright petals, then add the long stems and buds using the symbol chart.

Finished size: 40×23.5 cm (15.7×9.3 in). A bright summer panel for the living room or bedroom and a cheerful gift.
