Stitch Plums, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — ripe purple, violet and rosy plums lie in a long row with a few leafy twigs, their skins shaded with a soft bloom. The watercolour-style panel sits on crisp white Aida. Based on artwork by Elena Bazanova.

A little stitcher's folklore: in the old orchard calendar, the first plums marked the end of summer, and a bowl of them on the table was said to bring sweet dreams.

Why this kit: a rich, elegant fruit panel for a kitchen or dining room, and a perfect partner for the cherries, strawberries and apples in the same series.

Kit includes: 18-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 36 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the plums from their dark shadows to their pale highlights, then add the leaves and twigs, working from one end of the panel to the other.

Finished size: 57.5×18 cm (22.6×7.1 in). A stylish fruit panel for the kitchen and a lovely gift for home cooks.
