Stitch Still Life with Apples, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a row of pale green apples with a blush of yellow rests among dark leafy twigs, laid out along a long panel of white Aida. The gentle shading makes each apple look round and freshly picked. Based on artwork by Elena Bazanova.

A little stitcher's folklore: an old harvest saying goes that an apple kept on the windowsill brings health to everyone in the house. Stitched apples, stitchers say, last a good deal longer.

Why this kit: a calm, natural still life that suits a country kitchen or a modern dining room alike. The panoramic shape looks wonderful above a shelf or doorway.

Kit includes: 18-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 36 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the apples first, from the darkest shadows to the pale highlights, then add the leaves and twigs using the symbol chart. Work from one end to the other.

Finished size: 49.5×16.5 cm (19.5×6.5 in). A fresh fruit panel for the kitchen or dining room and a thoughtful gift for home cooks.
