Stitch The Peonies, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a classic botanical bouquet of white, pale pink and deep crimson peonies with buds and dark green leaves, after the famous flower paintings of Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Worked on fine 20-count evenweave for a delicate, antique-print look.

A little stitcher's folklore: Redouté painted flowers for Empress Josephine and was called the 'Raphael of flowers'. Peonies were her favourites after roses, and were said to bring honour and a happy home.

Why this kit: an elegant heirloom floral for lovers of vintage botanical art. The fine evenweave gives crisp detail in every petal.

Kit includes: 20-count white Zweigart Belana evenweave, Anchor 100% cotton threads in 44 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the deep crimson peony first, then the white and pink blooms, and finish with the leaves and buds using the symbol chart. Good light helps on 20-count fabric.

Finished size: 22.5×28.5 cm (8.9×11.2 in). A classic botanical picture for the living room or bedroom and a treasured gift.
