Stitch The Poppies, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — three scarlet poppies unfurl their papery petals on tall curving stems, with a closed bud and a seed head beside them, all on plain antique-white Aida. The loose watercolour style gives it an airy, modern look.

A little stitcher's folklore: poppies were once thought to bring restful dreams, and a sprig tucked under the pillow was an old remedy for a busy mind. Stitchers find the flowers themselves quite calming to make.

Why this kit: a simple, striking floral with lots of open fabric, so it stitches up quicker than you'd expect. Great for poppy lovers and as a remembrance gift.

Kit includes: 18-count antique white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 31 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Stitch the deep red shadows of each petal first, then the brighter reds and highlights, and finish with the stems, bud and seed head using the symbol chart.

Finished size: 24×28 cm (9.4×11 in). A bold, simple floral for a modern room and a meaningful gift.
