Stitch Red Roses, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — full coral-pink and rose-red blooms with buds and dark leaves spill across the picture in a loose watercolour style, with splashes of green and gold paint left around the edges like an artist's sketch.

A little stitcher's folklore: roses have been the flower of love since ancient times, and it's said a rose stitched by hand keeps its promise for ever — no water needed.

Why this kit: a romantic, painterly rose picture that makes a beautiful anniversary or Valentine's gift. The watercolour splashes give it a fresh, contemporary finish.

Kit includes: 18-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 50 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the deepest petals at the heart of each rose, then work out towards the lighter edges, and finish with the leaves and the paint-splash accents using the symbol chart.

Finished size: 44×28 cm (17.3×11 in). A romantic floral for the bedroom or living room and a lovely anniversary gift.
