Stitch Lake Annecy, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — the old town of Annecy in the French Alps, with its pastel houses, flower-hung balconies, cafés under striped awnings and a stone bridge over the canal, all reflected in the rain-washed street as people stroll by.

A little stitcher's folklore: Annecy is often called the Venice of the Alps, and local lore says anyone who crosses the Pont des Amours with their sweetheart will stay together for life.

Why this kit: a charming European town scene for travellers and lovers of pretty architecture. The reflections and flower boxes make it a richly detailed, rewarding project.

Kit includes: 18-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 54 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the bridge and canal in the centre, then work the houses on either side, and finish with the figures and street reflections using the symbol chart.

Finished size: 45×34 cm (17.7×13.4 in). A picturesque town scene for the living room and a lovely gift for anyone who loves France.
