Stitch Peaceful Morning, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — two deer step down to drink from a rushing mountain river while tall pines rise behind them and a little log cabin sits among the trees. White water tumbles over the rocks and the morning sky glows softly through the forest. Based on artwork by Jeff Tift.

A little stitcher's folklore: hunters and hikers used to say that if you see deer drinking at dawn, the day ahead will be calm. Stitchers say this is the perfect piece to work on with the first cup of tea of the morning.

Why this kit: a classic wilderness scene that brings the quiet of the forest into your home. The rushing water, pine trees and deer give plenty of variety, so the long project never feels repetitive.

Kit includes: 18-count Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Anchor 100% cotton threads in 49 colours, a needle, a symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Begin with the two deer, then stitch the river and rocks around them, and finish with the forest and sky. Working the chart in 10×10 blocks keeps the many shades of green and blue in order.

Finished size: 34×37 cm (13.39×14.57 in). A calm nature scene for the study or cabin wall, and a fine gift for anyone who loves the outdoors.
