Stitch Iris 'Burgermeister', a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — tall bearded irises in deep violet and plum open alongside pale cream and gold blooms, their sword-shaped leaves rising through soft watercolour washes.

A little stitcher's folklore: the iris was named after the Greek goddess of the rainbow, and gardeners say a bed of them brings a message of hope to the house.

Why this kit: a rich, painterly study of a classic garden iris — elegant colours that suit both modern and traditional rooms.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 48 colours, a needle, a black-and-white symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the deepest violet petals, then the cream and gold blooms, and finish with the leaves and background washes using the black-and-white chart.

Finished size: 22×22 cm (8.7×8.7 in). An elegant floral to frame and a lovely gift for gardeners.
