Stitch Lemon Essence of the Mediterranean, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a sprig of ripe yellow lemons sits at the centre of a mosaic of blue, green and gold Mediterranean majolica tiles.

A little stitcher's folklore: on the Amalfi coast a lemon tree by the door was said to keep a house cheerful and bring sunshine even in winter.

Why this kit: a fresh, graphic design with 38 colours — the tile patterns are a joy to stitch.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 38 colours, 2 needles, a needle threader, a partially coloured chart with coloured backstitch and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the lemons and leaves, then work the tiles one square at a time using the partially coloured chart.

Finished size: 25×20 cm (9.8×7.9 in). A sunny kitchen picture and a lovely gift for lovers of Italy and Portugal.
