Stitch Breakfast, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a little songbird perches on a thorny rose stem above full-blown pink English roses, while a honeybee settles in for its morning nectar, on a soft blush background.

A little stitcher's folklore: a bird singing near the roses at breakfast time was said to promise good news before sunset.

Why this kit: a delicate, romantic design after artwork by O. and A. Droznov, with 56 colours at an intermediate level.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 56 colours, 2 needles, a partially coloured chart with coloured backstitch and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the bird and bee, then the rose petals, and finish with the leaves and stems using the partially coloured chart.

Finished size: 25×35 cm (9.8×13.8 in). A gentle floral for the bedroom or kitchen and a lovely gift for gardeners.
