Stitch Sea Life, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — a golden-orange koi with flowing fins glides through a dreamy underwater garden of pink peonies, lotus and turquoise foliage, glowing against black Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: an old legend tells of a koi that swam up a waterfall and became a dragon, so a koi picture is a wish for strength and success.

Why this kit: a striking, jewel-bright design on black fabric with 57 colours — a real statement piece.

Kit includes: 16-count black Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 57 colours, 2 needles, a partially coloured chart with coloured backstitch and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the golden koi, then the pink flowers, and finish with the turquoise foliage; a light cloth on your lap helps you see the black fabric.

Finished size: 25×25 cm (9.8×9.8 in). A striking koi picture for the living room and a memorable gift.
