Stitch Two Magic Fish, a counted cross stitch kit by Luca-S — an orange-and-white koi and a blue-and-white koi circle each other with flowing fins, among swirling waves and orange blossoms on deep black Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: in the East two koi swimming together are a symbol of harmony, love and good fortune.

Why this kit: a striking, graphic design with 41 colours — the black fabric makes every colour glow.

Kit includes: 16-count black Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), Luca-S 100% cotton threads in 41 colours, 2 needles, a needle threader, a partially coloured chart with coloured backstitch and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the koi heads and scales, then the flowing fins, and finish with the waves and blossoms using the partially coloured chart; a daylight lamp helps when stitching on black.

Finished size: 23×38 cm (9.1×15 in). A striking modern picture for the bathroom or study and a lucky gift.
