Stitch Lighthouse, a mini counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a black and white spiral-striped lighthouse rises from golden rocks into a deep navy night sky. The strong contrast makes this little design really stand out. Worked in 14 colours of DMC stranded cotton.

A little stitcher's folklore: sailors believed a lighthouse beam seen at night meant a safe voyage and a warm welcome ashore. Stitchers say this one shines brightest on the darkest evenings.

Why this kit: if you love nautical decor and bold contrast, this night-time lighthouse is a quick, striking mini project. A lovely gift for sailors and seaside lovers, and a perfect partner to the other RTO lighthouses.

Kit includes: 14-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 14 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the black and white spiral of the lighthouse, then stitch the golden rocks. Fill the navy sky last — it's the largest area, so it's relaxing, steady stitching.

Finished size: 5.5×10.5 cm (2.17×4.13 in). A small nautical picture for a shelf or a little frame, and a sweet handmade gift.
