Stitch Briar and Butterfly, a mini counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a striking green and black birdwing butterfly with outspread wings, beneath a sprig of leaves and orange briar rosehips. Worked in 16 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: a butterfly visiting you is said to bring good news, and rosehips were kept through winter for health and luck. Stitchers say this pair brings both.

Why this kit: if you love butterflies and small botanical studies, this mini design is quick, elegant and easy to frame. A lovely gift for nature lovers.

Kit includes: 16-count white Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 16 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the black wing outlines, then fill the bright green panels. Finish with the leaves and orange rosehips.

Finished size: 8.5×9 cm (3.35×3.54 in). A small nature picture for a mini frame and a sweet handmade gift.
