Stitch Chickadee, a mini counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a round little chickadee with a black cap, white cheeks and a sunny yellow belly perches on a twig beside a cluster of bright orange-red berries. Worked in 12 colours of DMC stranded cotton on white Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: the chickadee is known as a cheerful little bird that stays all winter, and a chickadee at the window was said to bring a friendly visitor or good news. Stitchers say this one brightens any grey day.

Why this kit: if you love garden birds, this chickadee is a quick, cheerful mini project and a great first kit. A lovely gift for bird watchers — and it pairs beautifully with the other RTO birds in this series.

Kit includes: 14-count white Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 12 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the black cap and outlines, then fill the yellow belly and white cheeks. Finish with the twig and the round berries.

Finished size: 10×10 cm (3.94×3.94 in). A small bird picture for a mini frame or ornament, and a sweet handmade gift.
