Stitch In the Moment, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a hanging basket spilling over with tiny purple and lilac flowers dangles from an old wrought-iron bracket on a wooden post. Worked in 20 colours of DMC stranded cotton on 16-count ecru Aida, for a soft, vintage look.

A little stitcher's folklore: a basket of flowers hung by the door was said to welcome good luck and good friends into the house. Stitchers say this one is always in bloom.

Why this kit: if you love cottage gardens and gentle, vintage-style designs, this hanging basket is quick and relaxing to stitch. A lovely gift for gardeners, and part of RTO's In the Moment series.

Kit includes: 16-count ecru Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 20 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the purple and lilac flowers, then the green leaves and hanging cords. Finish with the wooden post and iron bracket.

Finished size: 12.5×15.5 cm (4.92×6.1 in). A gentle cottage-garden picture to frame and a lovely handmade gift.

I thought the canvas would be imprinted with the pattern. I am just a beginner, 75 years old, and this is too advanced for me. I will need to return it. But the item is beautiful!
