Stitch Rooster on the Walk, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a proud rooster with a bright red comb, glossy copper and plum feathers and a long dark tail struts along a sunny farmyard path in front of a chicken-wire fence. Worked in 35 colours of DMC stranded cotton on ecru Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: the rooster is the herald of the morning, and a rooster in the kitchen was long believed to chase away bad luck and bring an early, busy start to good things. Stitchers say this one keeps the whole house on time.

Why this kit: if you love farmhouse and country kitchen decor, this rooster is a rich, detailed piece with plenty of satisfying feather work. A great gift for chicken keepers and country-style homes.

Kit includes: 18-count ecru Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 35 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the comb, eye and beak, then build up the feathers section by section from the neck down to the tail. Finish with the fence and the path behind him.

Finished size: 17×24 cm (6.69×9.45 in). A bold farmhouse picture to frame and a thoughtful handmade gift.
