Stitch Prairie Dust, a counted cross stitch kit by RTO — a cowboy on a dark horse turns hard, kicking up a cloud of pale dust on the open prairie, with a wide, washed-out sky above. The loose, watercolour-like style gives it real movement. Worked in 25 colours of DMC stranded cotton on grey-beige Aida.

A little stitcher's folklore: cowboys said a good horse can feel the weather before you do, and a horseshoe hung over the door kept luck in the house. Stitchers say this one brings a little of the open range home.

Why this kit: if you love horses, rodeo or the American West, this is an atmospheric, artistic piece that stands out from typical horse kits. A great gift for riders, ranch lovers and Western decor.

Kit includes: 14-count grey-beige Zweigart Aida (100% cotton), DMC stranded cotton in 25 colours, a needle, a colour symbol chart and instructions. A frame and hoop are not included.

Start with the horse and rider, where the darkest browns sit, then build out the dust cloud. Work the light sky and soft background last so the colours fade naturally into the fabric.

Finished size: 32×27 cm (12.6×10.63 in). A Western picture to frame and a memorable gift for horse lovers.
